Future Art Writers Award

An arts-based exploration of the changing meanings, practices, paradoxes, and futures associated with Democracy through the power of words.

In the spirit of supporting an inclusive arts ecosystem around the annual Future Art Awards that celebrates the essential power of scholarly discourse in the arts, we’re excited to present the Future Art Writers Award — a $2,000 grant for emerging and established art writers who write about contemporary visual art and its contributions to democracy.

The Future Art Writers Award calls for U.S. art writers of all ages and professional backgrounds to submit an abstract (of about 250 words) on an essay/review/feature that they propose writing on the Future Art Awards Virtual Exhibition (opening late June 2021)—with a focus on the art on view and this year’s theme: Re-Imagining Democracy.

Two awards will be issued to submitting writers that demonstrate an original and compelling point of view in their proposed essay/review/feature of the 2021 Future Art Awards Virtual Exhibition, to be published as part of the e-catalogue for the exhibit. Proposed literary projects can address general and specialized art audiences. Writers working on experimental or non-traditional arts writing are also invited to apply. BIPOC and other historically marginalized or underserved art writers are encouraged to submit a proposal.
